Age Qualifications

There are no age limitations on joining our competition team. However, competitors are grouped by age and the divisions are as follows:

• 14 and Under   

• 15-19   

• 20-29   

• 30-39   

• 40-49   

• 50+   

• Women: All Ages

 

Residency Qualifications

The residency limitations on joining our competition team are: 

​​

• Born and raised in the Club city, or;

• Attend Elementary, MS, HS or College in Club city, or;

• 2+ years residency in Club city.

• If U18 member is subject to parents' residency.

• Direct inland residents are eligible if they have surfed local Club breaks on a regular basis for 2+ years. If inland from multiple breaks and clubs, surfer will have the choice to select the club they surf for.

Club Jumps

​

Each surfer gets one chance to "jump" clubs. Once “jumped” and surfing for another club, that is final. Any special circumstances must be addressed to FLBR Board for approval. The Commissioner’s decision is final.

 

Season Overview

​

Clubs will be split into three divisions, North, South and Gulf. Each club will be invited to three events within their division. The clubs top two event scores will add up into an overall score. The top two scoring clubs from their divisions will qualify for the Florida Boardriders Championship in March, 2022. The top two clubs from this Championship will then qualify for Nationals, held in either BSR wave pool or Lower Trestles, in May 2022.

Competition Format

​

• 4 surfers per age group (2 surfers from coach's selection; 2 from inner club tryouts and contests)

• Each age division is given 60 minutes to surf their heat

• Surfer's are allowed no more than 3 waves each in those 60 minutes and their top single wave score counts (1-10 scale), but surfers are not required to surf all 3 waves. They could surf 1 or 2 only and come in

• A single surfer will be chosen as the age group's "double whammy" surfer and their top single wave score counts double 

• The "double whammy" surfer must claim their wave by raising one or both hands within 10-12 seconds of completing their ride 

• If all surfers score a 5 point ride, the double whammy counts as 10 and the total for the group is 25 points

• All 4 surfers must remain under the club tent during the entire 60 minute heat; except for the person surfing

• All 4 surfers must tag each other 'in' and 'out' of the tent before and after they surf 

• All 4 surfers must be wearing their club jerseys during the entire 60 minute heat 

• All clubs will have their age group out at the same time 

• Note: please show up at least 30 minutes before your heat to strategize and check conditions
